Merry christmas Jack!

Merry christmas from Rouen!

I came out perhaps prematurely as I have problems with my van but the way I see it is, being in the UK has not helped me solve any of the van’s problems at all. I’m not scared of trying to sort things out in a foreign country so, why the hell not be somewhere i like and risk breaking down, than stay in rainy, grey Britain and risk breaking down?

I was tempted to hang around in wales after the mechanic called Rob helped me change that hose and told me where the temperature sensor was, but when could he fit me in? Would he actually be able to solve it? He actually said getting the inlet manifold off was an awful task and that’s one of the things I want doing so…

So anyway I booked up at the last minute and came here and headed for Rouen simply because it’s a place I like, I feel comfortable there, there’s everything I need including an auto parts store I’ve been to before, a Peugeot garage I’ve been to before, a launderette I’ve used in the past and it’s a beautiful old city. Most of that is listed in this post…

The aire I use is right on the riverbank and in an industrial part of town, it’s well used but no-one bothers you down there and I can do jobs on the van that I have planned.

Christmas dinner is not lamb this year, it’s a joint of gammon that I got from Aldi cheap, but aside from that I have all the trimmings and will enjoy a very full dinner as always.

Where I stayed: Aire de Rouen, Quai Jacques Anquetil, 76100 Rouen. N49.433254, W1.096490. Free No services.

Merry Christmas!!!

It’s Christmas morning, and this is my 8th Christmas in the van now. I decided to leave Bamburgh and come north and I am now sitting in view of the Forth bridge in Fife. I hope this weekend to get some photos of the new bridge construction before moving to Falkirk for more photos of the wheel.

The van’s old problem of non-starting is back again *sigh* I turn the key and it flat out refuses to start. I can try continually and it may or may not start eventually, and over the years there’s been no clue as to what causes it. However my fire works great, the fridge appears to be working and at least I am moving again.

I hope you all have a fabulous Christmas and Santa is kind to you 🙂

Christmas Scrooge

As some of you know, I’ve had a miniature Christmas tree on my dashboard for about 3 years now. It’s been through 3 MOT’s, and I recently bought new decorations and lights for it. But today this nob head copper decides to blue light me leaving a local shopping park, and insists I take it down, on the grounds that “your view of the road is, in my opinion impaired.”
I replied that due to my high seating position in my camper, I probably had a much better view of the road than he did in his car. We argued for a few seconds til he pulled his trump card, saying “take it down now and we’ll forget all about it, or I’ll ticket you and you’ll be fined and get 3 points on your licence.”
Of course I had no choice but to take it down there and then, probably by doing so, giving him something to wank over tonight.

My Xmas treeHere’s my tree, complete with angel 🙂

Odd that you can be pulled for having a Christmas tree on your dashboard, but offering a very rigid finger to a cop as you drive away seems not to be an arrestable offence….

Merry Christmas!

My first Christmas in the van! I spent it in the peaks as I’d been over in Stoke with that useless shower of fools trying to get the satellite to work. It still doesn’t!

I’ve made a full Christmas dinner though using chicken instead of turkey as I don’t like turkey that much. At least there’s snow here!
